
About Ellie
Having trained at the Royal Academy of Dancing, Ellie Wood began her career in casting and at a theatrical agency before joining the BBC as a script editor. She spent eight years in-house, working on a number of award-winning dramas including Bleak House, The Line of Beauty and He Knew He Was Right.
She moved to Clerkenwell Films, progressing from head of development to executive producer, working on productions such as The Diary of a Nobody for the BBC. She then joined Tiger Aspect Productions as an executive producer, where her projects included a BBC adaptation of Decline and Fall.
For two years she worked as a consultant for Miramax and has also consulted for Sony Pictures Entertainment and Catalyst Global Media.
She set up Clearwood Films to develop her own film and TV slate and, in March 2019, signed a first look development deal with Banijay Rights, the leading distribution arm of Banijay Group.
In 2019, she produced The Dig, a feature film adaptation for Netflix of John Preston’s novel, starring Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James and Johnny Flynn. It was released in January 2021, nominated for five BAFTAs (including Outstanding British Film and Adapted Screenplay) and watched by more than 100 million people worldwide.
In 2022, she produced Stonehouse, a three-part ITV drama written by John Preston about Labour minister John Stonehouse, starring Matthew Macfadyen as Stonehouse and Keeley Hawes as his wife Barbara, and directed by Jon S. Baird. It was broadcast in January 2023.
She is also an executive producer on Hot Milk, a feature film adaptation of Deborah Levy’s bestselling novel, starring Emma Mackey, Fiona Shaw and Vicky Krieps and written and directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. It will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2025.
